On blogging…
My idea was to carve out a niche for myself online in public health. I majored in math in college, and quickly learned that I didn’t want to go into that field. I realized that I was passionate about health, and wasn’t quite sure how I would be able to break into that field. That was until I got a work-study job at Fenway Community Health, and connected with an amazing mentor. The rest is history…I was able to continue taking my really difficult math classes, and finish up my degree because I could see the light at the end of the tunnel. Upon graduation, I would finally be free to follow my passion in public health. I was also fortunate to volunteer at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in their transport department, and even luckier that they hired me! Working as a transporter in a hospital, you are a fly on the wall in every department. From inpatient units, to test sites, to the morgue, you literally witness health care delivery.
I started blogging because I didn’t get the chance to study biological sciences/public health/nursing as an undergrad. I saw blogging as my chance to learn and interact with people in those fields. This blog is a chronicle of what I’ve learned, and it has introduced me to amazing individuals I wouldn’t have met otherwise.
I can’t believe the amazing people I’ve met on Twitter and through this blog. The online friendships formed are really special. To put yourself out here and be positively received is a wonderful feeling.
So thank you for reading, commenting, liking and reblogging!
